ABOUT THE COURSES
Elementary cutting course
The art, craft and design of hair sculpture. If you are getting started or wanting to get started this is the ideal course for you!
Foundations set the disciplines for use in daily work. An exciting insight into the basics of hair sculpture. A solid theoretical and practical understanding of the four commonly used shapes. These structures or shapes can produce any number of styles. Hands on will help you to integrate. A visual representation – Demonstration – Integration. This course can be applied to training staff in the salon. All courses include lunch, morning and afternoon tea. Head mannequins are provided.Day one covers:
- the ‘consultation’ of a client
- the seven points of awareness
- simple strategies step by step
- visual theory
- classic one length form
- convergence layering
- demonstrations followed by hands on work
Day two covers:
- recapping from previous week followed by visual theory
- graduation form
- uniform layering
- basic combination forms
- intro to scissor over comb
- demonstrations followed by hands on work.
Intermediate cutting course
level 1
A Deeper understanding to the theory and practical perspectives of cutting. Insights and navigating modern hair fashion trends.
Level two
The art, craft and design of haircutting and introduction to sculpture, theory and further advancing practical perspectives of cutting. A venture into navigating modern hair design.
According to an individuals’ exposure in the salon, various levels can occur at this stage of hairdressing. These one day courses can be utilised as a developmental approach in staff training and both cover:
- the ‘consultation’ of a client
- the seven points of awareness
- visual theory with practical perspective on achieving shapes
- classic one length form and it’s relevance
- convergence layering and various designs lines of positioning
- graduation form and balance
- uniform and combination forms
You will gain skills in your techniques, awareness of visual sense and plan of approach to your haircutting.Six months minimum floor cutting experience required. This course can also be applied to training staff at the salon.All courses include lunch morning and afternoon tea. Head mannequins are provided.
Advanced sculptural course level3
Exploring hair sculpture to create desirable outcomes and understanding the path to achieving progressive contemporary and funky hair. Develop your techniques and unleash your natural skills! This one day course will cover:
- client consultation
- discussing tools and techniques
- anticipating weights, length, balance and textural response
- demonstrations and workshopping
- systemizing
- establishing clear direction
- strategies; knowing where to cut and why
- navigating and balancing the desired outcome
All courses include lunch and head mannequins. You will be required to have at least two years of floor cutting experience for level 3.
Progressive sculptural course level 4
The Progressive sculpting course level four integrates the advanced course level three. This is a one day intensive seminar/ workshop. A progression in hair sculpture, knowing where to cut and why. Using discipline and technique, create your design and perfect your skills. Apply your visionary sense and gain insight in relation to your approach with sculpting and design. The structure of this seminar contains demonstrations discussing the following and workshopping for integration:-
· Head and face shapes · Consultation · Face framing · Hair texture and the length/weight relationship · Growth tendencies and patterns · Strategies and approach · Systematise · Navigation and perspectives towards desired results · Balancing and checking methods
Craftsperson sculpture course level5
The Craftsperson’s course level 5 integrates the progressive and takes you into the mastery of your skills.
These are the craftsmen and women of hairdressing who visualize the ‘hair design’ in mind, and by using appropriate tools and technique they forge a plan of approach; they can navigate the path towards their design. They transform their knowledge into sheer funkiness with balanced and personalised outcomes. They know their stuff!
Psychology for hairdressers
(Psychology) – The science of normal functions and the systems of living things. Rarely covered in our industry is the development and awareness of our habits and behaviours with relation to how it affects our daily work and lifestyle. This course pertains to hairdressing, and caters towards physiological aspects of our business. Behaviours that may or may not be working for us.
Extra information ( for course attendees)
Head mannequins for cutting courses provided –
Handouts for sketching, footnotes and trigger notes provided.
Bring scissors, razors (*guarded ! and *unguarded !), cutting combs, sectioning clips, blow dryer, water spray.
Bring a camera if you prefer to record your work after each cut.
Courses are held on Mondays’, however, with advanced bookings and prior arrangement, other days of the week can be organised.
The ‘elementary’ is a two day course ! Investment for all courses is $295 per/day.
Currently, seminars are conducted by a supply and demand basis, We need a minimum of 5 participants to commence a course and there is maximum of ten people per class.
